An ornate original 1925 Prohibition Prescription for Spirits Frumenti, the US pharmaceutical term for Whiskey...Oi (pint bottle)! This prescription was used for a short period of time during the Prohibition, between 1924 and 1925. Please see photos!
From the days of Al Capone, speakeasies and moonshine this was the only legal way to drink liquor in the US!
The whiskey was prescribed for Hannah Barsky, by Dr. ? Theo Rosen, on August 22, 1925, and was filled the same day by Nichols Laboratories, in Brooklyn, NY.
It was issued by the Treasury Department and is printed on fancy, beautiful paper, that was also used for U.S. currency. In the center is the old Treasury Seal with the Latin inscription, "Thesaur. Amer. Septent. Sigil.". When you hold this prescription up to the light PROHIBITION is watermarked, as with the metal strips that are used in U.S. bills today, the graphics are GREAT!
The prescription measures 6 1/2" x 4 3/8", has two folds, a piece off the right bottom corner, light bends, otherwise, condition is excellent...a beautiful 1925 whiskey Rx!
This is a FANTASTIC piece of history and would be great to display in a pharmacy, wine cellar, distillery, museum, bar or office! Also a great gift or an addition to a collection of pharmacy, medicine, US currency, Alcoholics Anonymous, Capone, 1920s, bar, Americana, stamps and DEA items!
